COCONUT HUSK CHIP POTTING MEDIA is simply the best potting media available for orchids today. Due to the inconsistent quality of bark and the high quality of these chips, we have used nothing but coconut for the past several years. The fine sized chips (1/4”-1/2”) are packaged in one-gallon bags and after soaking in water will almost double its size. The medium sized chips (1/2”-3/4”) are packaged in one-gallon bags also and will also almost double its size. Coconut chips have perfect pH (slightly acidic), are easily rewettable, have high aeration capacity, hold moisture better than the best sponge, and best of all have a FIVE year lifespan. So far we have had excellent results with Phalaenopsis, Cattleyas, Oncidiums, Paphiopedulums, Dendrobiums, and numerous species.
Instructions for use: (included with each bag) chips need to be soaked in water twice before use and should be used moistened. This product has been compressed and will swell substantially upon wetting. This media can be used alone or mixed with other products. Our general mix consists of 4 bags of medium with 1 bag of fine and one cup of coarse perlite per gallon of this mix.
