C. Callistoglossa (C. warscewiczii coerulea x L. purpurata var. werkhauserii)
(C. warscewiczii var. coerulea 'Gabriel Amaru' AM/AOS x L. purpurata var. werkhauserii 'Orchid Eros' AM/AOS)
This is a primary hybrid between the coerulea forms of two large cattleya species. Cattleya warscewiczii is a large Colombian species also known as Cattleya gigas. The flowers of the coerulea form are baby blue with a much darker blue lip and yellow throat. Laelia (Cattleya) purpurata is a species from Brazil and is one of our favorite summer-blooming species! The variety werkhauseri has large magnificent crystalline white flowers with a dark slate blue lip and a heavenly fragrance! From this hybrid, we will see large cattleya plants carrying large flowers with light blue sepals and petals and a darker blue, heavily veined lip. Stunning -- especially since the parent species are both excellent awarded clones!
(About 2+ years from blooming size.)
